E. P. Buford

from The Richmond, Virginia Times
March 13, 1901

Honorable E. P. Buford,
Commonwealth's Attorney of Brunswick, is in the city to argue a case before the
Supreme Court.
When asked yesterday, Mr. Buford said that unfortunately, his county had four murder trials on hand, and that interest in them was overshadowing everything else, politics included. Mr. Buford would not say that he was a candidate for the Constitutional Convention, though he admitted that his friends were pressing him to run. There are factions in the Democratic party in Brunswick, and Mr. Buford is the recognized leader of one of them.
The other
one is headed by ex-Senator Robert Turnbull, and he is understood to be an
aspirant. If this be true Mr. Buford will almost surely run. He has
several times been a member of the Legislature, and is regarded as one of the
brightest young men in Southside Virginia.
