Valdosta, Georgia, September 16 - A white man giving his name as T. L. Johnson
was arrested here this afternoon as Benjamin S. Buford, who is wanted in South
Carolina for murder. Buford is charged with the murder of a man named
Blackburn in Aiken County about two years ago. Johnson or Buford, was
arrested by Officer Pressley of the police force and Detective A. P. Glover of
Augusta, Georgia who has been on the track of the man for six weeks.
The accused man has been working at the carpenters' trade in this city for about three months and claims to have been living in Valdosta for more than a year. He denies that his name is Buford and says he is willing to go to South Carolina without a requisition. Detective Glover states that there is no doubt at all about his having the right man and he will leave with his prisoner on an early train tomorrow morning. Buford is said to be of a very prominent family. His two brothers and his father-in-law being among the wealthiest people in their section of South Carolina.
